Cine Tirol – the film commission of the Austrian province Tirol - was founded in 1998 on the initiative of the provincial government and the regional tourism board in order to promote Tirol as an attractive location for international film productions.
The team of Cine Tirol was quite surprised when from the very beginning of its marketing activities the Indian film industry showed a strong interest for shooting in the area - the beauty of the alpine landscape, the cultural sights and the friendliness of the local people attracted more than 80 Indian film productions so far – for example Subash Ghai’s “Yuvraaj”, Ajay Devgan’s “Raju Chacha”, Nitin Manmohan’s “Chal mere bhai”, Krishna Vamsi’s “Khadgam” and “Vasantham” featuring Venkatesh Babu, “Tera Mera Saath Rahen” starring Ajay Devgan and Sonali Bendre and “Manmadhadu” also starring Sonali Bendre were shot in Tirol.
In 2014 Ajay Devgan returned to Tirol to shoot songs and scenes for the romantic Action comedy "Action Jackson", directed by Prabhu Deva and also starring Sonakshi Sinah and Yami Gautam.
Many of the Indian film makers were totally impressed by the beauty of Tirol’s mountain scenery: “It’s like paradise!”, they said.
This is why Cine Tirol invites Indian film producers to shoot in Tirol; additionally Cine Tirol wants to inform foreign shoot project coordinators and location scouts in India about the attractions of Tirol and initiate a long-term partnership with all film makers. Cine Tirol is predominantly interested in Indian film productions which are showing the alpine landscape, rural and urban architecture and regional costumes of Tirol recognisably.
Tirol was praised by the French director Jean-Jacques Annaud:
“Tirol offers the efficiency of Germany, the beauty of Switzerland and the charm of Italy”
His statement is a convincing invitation especially to Indian film makers to choose Tirol as the location in the Heart of the Alps.
Tirol is for numerous reasons the ideal location for Indian film makers to realize their project here: amongst them the
Tirol has already inspired numerous Indian filmmakers to tell their stories here and the Tirolean landmarks have provided the backdrop for several song and dance scenes from some of the most popular Bollywood films.
